Arthur Paul Hicks Jr., 61, of Glenwood, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, October 1, 2018 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf with his brother Rev. Dennis Hicks officiating.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the services on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Arthur Paul Hicks Jr. c/o Glenwood Re Center, 711 S. Vine Street, #19, Glenwood, Iowa 51534.

Paul was born December 31, 1956, in Davenport, as the fourth of six sons to Arthur Hicks and Virginia Runyon Williams, “Paul Jr’s”. life was tragically turned upside down when, at an early age he developed spinal meningitis which resulted in permanent and profound mental retardation. Due to his condition, Paul Jr. was cared for by the loving and professional staff of the Glenwood Re Center.

Paul Jr. was a sweet loving innocent man who taught others, through his difficulties, how to love and appreciate every good thing in life, as well as how to preserver through the bad. He loved the outdoors, train rides, visits to the zoo and participating in the Special Olympics. Those who got to spend time with Paul Jr. knew what a very special person he was.

We rejoice in his heavenly homecoming. Survivors include his mother, Virginia Runyon Williams of Calamus, Iowa; brothers, Robert (Bob) Hicks of Calamus, Justin (Wayne) Hicks of Davenport, Dennis Hicks of Richmond, Indiana and Darrell Hicks of Davenport; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur; his brother Clifford; and his half-brother Alan.
