Louis J. Sommer, 66, of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 9, 2018 at Davenport Memorial Park. Louis was born July 29, 1951 in Lakewood, Ohio, a son of Louis & Marilyn (Gresham) Sommer.

He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Cheryl H. Holmquist on June 23, 1979 in Bettendorf. She preceded him in death on November 19, 2007.

Louis had earned a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and was retired from the Rock Island Arsenal. He enjoyed camping, fishing and golf. Those left to honor his memory include his son, Andrew Sommer of Bettendorf.
