Barbara Elkins Overton, age 87, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully with her loving husband of 67 years in their home on June 10, 2018. She was born in Knoxville on November 11, 1930 to the late Mary L. and Luther Elkins. She was a member of the Meridian Baptist Church and formerly of Sevier Heights Church.

She retired as a librarian from the Knoxville School System in 1991, a position she felt privileged to hold. She was past V. President and part owner of the National Paperback Books Inc., which afforded her and her husband Bob many opportunities for travel. She was a member of KEA and TEA and past member of NEA, American Book Sellers, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Mount Vista Garden Club.

She loved spending time with family every year at Myrtle Beach and also playing the piano, decorating, reading, attending the POPS Symphony, and theater production. She was preceded in death by her infant son, David; brother, Kyle Elkins; and special aunt, Betty Lockett. Barbara will be greatly missed by her loving son, Jerry Stephan Overton; adoring daughter and son-in-law, Olivia and Todd Nickens of Kingsport; grandsons, Blake Overton (Hannah), Taylor Overton, Michael and Joshua Nickens; and beloved great granddaughter, Maddox Ruth Overton.

Grandchildren will be serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends for Bob and Barbara at Meridian Baptist Church on Chapman Highway, Thursday, June 14 from 4:30-6:30 PM with funeral services to follow at 7 PM with Pastor Dana Fachman officiating. Interment for Bob and Barbara 11 AM Friday, June 15, 2018 in Woodlawn Cemetery.
