Barbara Jean (Douma) Mueller, beloved wife of 55 years to the late A. Robert Mueller, Sr., passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side on February 7, 2019. Born on May 18, 1935 in Newton NJ, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Vivian Douma. The oldest of 7, Barbara was raised on a farm in Hackettstown, NJ and loved the outdoor life.

After marrying, she and her husband built and lived in many houses in the Broadway, NJ area, the last of which is now the Morris Canal Museum at Bread Lock Park in Stewartsville, NJ. She also lived in Harmony Twp, NJ and Bath, PA before settling in East Granby, CT. As a school bus driver for several years, Barbara was lucky to see many grow up and have children of their own riding on her bus.

Later in life she worked for and retired from the State of NJ as Senior Maintenance Repair for the Warren Acres Juvenile Detention Center in Oxford, NJ. Barbara also was a certified locksmith, and loved nothing more than to take something apart and fix it. Tender and tough, patient and caring, she would be the first to help anyone in need.

Her loving spirit and warm disposition will live forever in our hearts and be dearly missed. Barbara leaves behind a son, Robert, Jr. of Harmony Twp, Phillipsburg, NJ; a daughter Barbara and her husband Terry of Windsor Locks, CT; her cherished grandchildren Tracy Mueller and her love Brian Sames of Northampton, PA, Madysen Teixeira and her husband Eric of Simsbury, CT, Esai Jubrey and his love Sydney Hansen of Windsor, CT. and Kelly Mueller of Inwood, West Virginia, and great grandchildren Haley and Trenton Romanishan of Inwood, West Virginia; sisters Maise Douma of Gainesville, Florida, Carolyn Douma of Reno, NV, and Shirley Fleming of Bethlehem, PA; a brother Richard Douma and his wife Gloria of Easton, MD.

; a brother- and sister-in-law Markley and Gertrude Fleming of Bethlehem, PA, a sister-in-law Arlene Foss of Nazareth, PA; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her great grandson Shane Romanishan, and two sisters, Nancy Zucker and Sharon Gilbert. The family wishes to thank the many extended family and friends for their encouraging words and kind gestures, Charles Ligon, Corporate Chaplin for PowerSecure for his warm spiritual guidance, the compassionate staff at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at St. Francis in Hartford, CT, and the exemplary care by the Farmington Valley VNA.

A Visitation of Family and Friends will be held from 5-8 pm on Friday, February 15 at the Rupell Funeral Home, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. Funeral Service for Barbara will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Montana Cemetery, Harmony, NJ.
