Barbara Mackey, March 03, 1936 — September 09, 2018

Obituary for Barbara Mackey Barbara Ann Smith Mackey, 82, of 205 Kent Ln Danville, went home to be with her Lord on Sun, Sept 9, 2018 at Stratford Rehab Center after being in declining health for the past year. Barbara was born in Oneonta, NY on March 3, 1936, daughter of the late Clifford Smith and the late Catherine Rich Smith. She was a homemaker whose greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren.

She loved celebrating special moments in their lives and her fondest memories will forever remain in her heart and soul. Barbara was a very active member of Mt. Olivet UMC, where she was a member of the choir, the UMWs; she was active in the VBS crafts and the nursery.

Barbara was also known for her love of gardening, crafting, and she especially loved cooking and baking for her family. Barbara was married to Robert Warren Mackey who died on Oct 3, 1988. Survivors include, daughters, Betsy Kent and husband Stephen of Danville, VA, Holly Stanfield and husband Kenneth of Alton, VA, and Pamela Butler and husband Francis of Baltimore, MD; sons, Ric Booth and wife Patti of Baltimore, MD, Robert Mackey and wife Barb of New Berlin, NY, and David Booth of WI; brother, Richard Smith; sisters, Mary Higgins and Grace Simmons; 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be conducted on Thurs. Sept 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. Interment will be held at a later date in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence, 205 Kent Ln Danville, VA 24540. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial donations be made to Mt. Olivet UMC Marion Fulton Scholarship Fund at 245 Mt Olivet Ln Danville, VA 24541 or to Stratford Rehab Center at 508 Rison St Danville, VA 24541.
