Obituary for Bennet August Magri Sr Bennet August Magri Sr, 49, of Matthews, died unexpectedly April 9, 2018. Ben, as he was commonly called, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on February 7, 1969, the son of Joseph John and Marian Camma Magri. He went on to graduate from Ohio State with a degree in Agronomy.
Most recently, he had been working for US Turf of Locust. On November 18, 1995, he married Megan Dobbins, whom he met at Howl at the Moon in Cleveland. They were truly best friends who experienced all of the highs and lows of life together.
An especially fond memory shared with his wife was celebrating their first St Patrick’s Day kicking a 12 pack across the parking lot. Ben enjoyed many things in life, with most of them centered around his three children. Whether golfing with his daughter Palmer, going to the movies with his son Bennet, or watching goofy tv shows like Mr. Bean and Southpark with his daughter Hope, Ben loved every minute spent with his children.
He also enjoyed baseball and was of course a fan of the Cleveland Indians and travelling. Ben was a great artist, a guitar player who could also play other instruments, and an aficionado of Jazz and Swing music. His favorite holidays were Halloween and Fourth of July.
Everyone looked forward to the annual trek to the Halloween store and the fireworks stand. They even had a friendly cul de sac competition during the July 4th festivities with watermelon eating contests and lighting off the fireworks. Most of all, he was 100% Sicilian with a rich Italian heritage, which meant that he was a hardworking man who most loved the time spent with family and friends.
In addition to the times he spent with his children, he and his wife, Megan, loved listening to music and cooking together, especially Grandma Magri’s Pepperoni Rolls. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Ben is survived by his wife, Megan; three children: Bennet August Magri Jr, Palmer Louise Magri and Hope Lora Magri; his father Joseph Magri (wife Jeanne) of Calabash, NC; his mother-in-law, Lora Barney of Matthews, NC; his sisters Elizabeth Hertzfeld (husband Craig) of Mint Hill, NC, Mary Vessele (husband Eric) of St Charles, IL, and Amy Barson (husband William “Bill”), missionaries currently in Kampong Cham, Cambodia; and a brother Joseph Magri of Sunset Beach, NC.
Ben is further survived by his canine companion, Sandy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ben was preceded in death by his mother, Marian Magri, and another canine companion, Jason. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, April 13, 2018, at St Luke Catholic Church with Fr.
