Obituary for Ethel Marie Morris Ethel Marie Bowers Morris, 81, of Matthews, NC, died Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, North Carolina. After years of dealing with dementia, the love and care of the Hospice program allowed her to pass with family by her side. Marie was born on May 4, 1937, in Onondaga, New York, the daughter of Walter Otis and Marie Nora Lambert Bowers.
Eventually her family moved to Syracuse where she graduated from high school. In 1957, she married James Edward Farrell. Together they had nine children.
They moved around the country before finally settling in Charlotte around 1973. At Wesley Nursing Center on Shamrock, she attended nursing school where she obtained her certification as a nurse’s aid. After a nursing career of over 35 years, she retired.
She later married David Elwood Morris, who preceded her in death in 2004. Marie enjoyed many things in life. She could sew, paint ceramics, and was a kitchen wizard who could make a great casserole from anything she could find.
Blessed with a beautiful voice, she enjoyed singing soprano on her own as well as in church. In addition to children’s songs, many a Tammy Wynette song was sung to her children growing up. The most important of which was being a mother both to her children and to any children blessed to be around her.
She had a life of service and love, caring not only for children but also for others in her many years as a nurse’s aid. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Marie is survived by her children: Debra Kraemer (Mike) of Matthews, NC, Linda Heimo (Pete) of Love Valley, NC, Barbara Kennedy (Manuel) of Concord, NC, Jimmy Farrell (Jammie) of Gastonia, NC, Donna Brasher (Shawn) of Leeds, AL, Patty Green (Scott) of Moody, AL, Sandy Dover (Jim) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Marcia Madajski (David) of Mint Hill, NC, and Johnny Farrell (Terri) of Mint Hill, NC.
