Betty Chambless Laing passed away on June 6, 2018 at the Willson Hospice House in Albany, Georgia. Betty was born in Terrell County on March 26, 1936 to James Wesley Chambless and Ruth Smith Chambless. She graduated from Terrell County High School in 1954.

After graduation, she worked at the Terrell County Welfare Department as a secretary. She later worked at Laing Implement Company as a bookkeeper and at Jack’s Farm Toys with her husband. They enjoyed traveling to toy shows together.

Her favorite job was as a homemaker. Betty was a member of the Dawson United Methodist Church. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jack Laing; her son, Don Laing (Marianna) of Dawson; her daughter, Tammy Laing Merritt (Richard) of Weston; her grandchildren, Will Laing (Erica) and Wes Laing, both of Dawson and Ashley Merritt of Weston; and her great-granddaughter, Macy Laing of Dawson. The funeral will be held at Harvey Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 8 at 11 AM. Graveside will be for immediate family.

The family will receive visitors at the home residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dawson United Methodist Church, PO Box 167, Dawson, GA 39842 or to a charity of your choice.
