Obituary for Betty Eileen Mercer Betty Eileen Mercer, 93 of Zanesville, formerly of Plainfield, died 7:00 AM, Friday, February 23, 2018 at Willow Haven Care Center in Zanesville. She was born Monday, September 1, 1924 in Coshocton the daughter of Frank Retzler and Minerva (Clough) Retzler. She was married on Friday, December 18, 1964 to Verol L. Mercer who preceded her in death on Friday, June 6, 2014.

She was a Methodist by faith. She worked for Plainfield Elementary School as a secretary for 15 years and loved country music and dancing. Betty is survived by one son: Gene Tice of Bowling Green, KY; three daughters, Cheryl (Charles “Chuck”) Murrey, Trudy Mercer and Tammy (Junior) Adams all of Zanesville; grandchildren: Greg (Jenny) Murrey, Julie Murrey, Tanner Baughman, Greta Baughman, Clay Mercer, Jade Mercer all of Zanesville, Kristeen (Kevin) Owens of KY, Doug (Jamie) Tice of Nashville, TN many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her sister and best friend, Kathleen Brelsford of Coshocton and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Verol L. Mercer who died June 6, 2014; one grandson, Chuckie Murrey three sisters, Edna Marshall, Elsie Grandstaff, and Esther Hoop; one daughter-in-law, Beverly Tice. Special care was given by her grandson Tanner Baughman. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Zanesville Memorial Park in Zanesville with Pastor Ron Griffin officiating.
