Obituary for Bobby Lee Dorton Appalachia, Virginia Bobby Lee Dorton A quiet, much loved man of God, Bobby Lee Dorton, 72, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Holston Valley Hospital. Bobby was born on October 30, 1945 in Appalachia, VA. Bobby was a veteran of the US Army, having served with the 1st Infantry division in Vietnam.
On returning home, he graduated from Clinch Valley College with a B.A. in Business Administration. Bobby served as town manager of Appalachia and Pound, VA. He retired in 2012.
Bobby’s friends were like the stars in heaven- too numerous to count. He made it a priority to help as many people as he could. Just talking to Bobby could ease your mind of any problem you had.
His love and passion for the Lord was always evident in everything he did. Bobby was a gifted golfer, tennis player, woodworker, Indian artifact collector, and a true Bible scholar. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Audry Dorton, as well as sisters, Patsy Goodman and Ruby Hoover.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Dysart; step-son, William and Rebecca Dysart of Corbin, KY; Granddaughter, Keshia and Austin Corder; great-granddaughter, Oliva Grace Corder; brothers, William Ray and Sandy Dorton of Big Stone Gap, VA, Larry and Brenda Dorton of Big Stone Gap, Michael and Christine Dorton of Powhatan, VA; sisters, Nancy and Greg Goodson of Wise, VA, Donna Mohn of Appalachia, Teresa Gibson of Appalachia; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Appalachia First Baptist Church, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Funeral services will follow with Dr. Nick Brewer officiating. Military graveside services will be held at Riverview Cemetery at 3 P.M. on Sunday, September 30, 2018.
Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Chatham Dorton, Garrett Dorton, Brad Gibson, Cody Gibson, Patrick Dorton, William Dysart, and Matt Dysart. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the ALS Association (Gift Processing Center, PO Box 37022 – Boone, IA 50037-0022) or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (501 St Jude Place – Memphis, TN 38105).
