Bret Abell, Jr., 88, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Linda E. White Hospice House. Bret was born February 1, 1930 in Princeton, IN to the late Bret Abell, Sr. and Diamond (Pirkle) Abell Casey. He graduated from Winslow, IN High School in 1948.

Bret was employed in the accounting department at Swift Packing Company until they closed the Evansville operations. He then retired from Whirlpool Corp. in 1995, after 30 years of service.

Bret also worked at H&R Block for 25 years and shared his accounting expertise by serving as a volunteer for AARP Tax Services, donating his time to help senior citizens with tax preparation. Bret’s memberships included Bethany Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Evansville Masonic Lodge 64 for over 50 years, Scottish Rite, as well as Tri-State Woodcarvers. He was diligent with his physical exercise and was an active member at Bob’s Gym for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Lynn Abell, and two infant brothers. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marilyn L. Abell and sons, Gary W. Abell of Tampa, FL and Gerry S. Abell (Sophie) of Noblesville, IN. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend Kyle M. Hunter and Dr. Dan Lovell officiating.

Burial will be in Centenary Cemetery. Friends may visit from 10:00 am. until time of service, Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.

Evansville Masonic Lodge 64 will conduct a Masonic Service at 12:00 noon. Memorial Contributions may be made to The Literacy Center, 3411-A North First Avenue, Evansville, IN 47710.
