Obituary for Thelma Jean Brown Thelma Jean Brown, 86 of Newburgh, died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at her home. She was born February 5, 1932, in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Maude (Smith) and Howard Webster. Thelma was raised in Monroeville, IN.

She was a graduate in Education from Indiana University in 1954. She then received her Master’s in Education from the University of Illinois in 1961 where she was the first ever female graduate assistant at the University of Illinois. Thelma spent most of her 51 years of teaching early elementary education serving in Fort Wayne Community Schools.

She also directed a preschool and substitute taught at Castle Elementary after retirement. Thelma was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Wawasee Lakeside Chapel, a life member of Pi Lambda Theta and past International officer, AAUW,and Evansville Retired Teachers. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Eric Forche; grandchildren, Emily and Nicholas Forche.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Joseph F. Brown; and her parents, Maude and Howard Webster. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, Saturday, July 14, 2018, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 2300 Washington Ave. , Evansville, IN 47714.

A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am with Rev. Don Gray officiating. Burial will take place Monday, July 16, 2018, at Monroeville Memorial Cemetery in Monroeville, Indiana at 1:00 pm E.S.T. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 2300 Washington Ave.
