Carl “Gene” Eugene Wright, 84, of Matthews, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 4, 2019 with his family at his side at Novant Medical Center in Matthews. Gene is survived by his beloved wife Eleanor Carr Jordan Wright of 64 years, sons Gary, and David and his wife Karen, daughter -in-law, Judy Strupe Wright, grandchildren, Gina, Jason, Christie, Ellen, Haley, and Jordan. Gene was preceded in death by his son Carl Eugene Wright, and his mother Margaret Elzabeth Mills, and father William Burls “WB” Wright.

Gene was born in Ellerbe, NC, on June 17, 1934, and was raised in Richmond County for most of his youth. After he met his wife Eleanor, they lived in Hamlet, NC for a while and where he worked for the railroad, and then they moved to Charlotte, where he worked for Douglas Aircraft in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, and has continued to live in Charlotte to this day, raising their family. Ultimately Gene retired from Challenger Electric, and started his own business called Carl.

E. Enterprises. Gene loved to hunt, fish, gardening and spending time with his wife and sons. Gene was avid church goer at Mint Hill Baptist Church in Mint Hill, NC in his early years and later at Mt.

Harmony Baptist Church in Matthews, NC until present. A funeral service will take place at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, 2817 Mt Harmony Church Rd, Matthews, NC 28105, on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 12pm with the family receiving friends there one hour prior.
