Carston Pratt, Sr. November 10, 1921 – May 15, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Carston Pratt was born on November 10, 1921 in Raeford, North Carolina. He was the son of Junius and Haley Pratt, and he had four brothers, Bud, Fred, George and Marshall, and two sisters, Lenora and May. The family moved to New York in the 1930’s and resided on Lenox Avenue.

Carston served in the Army during World War II, which is when he met his future wife, Sadie Gaither. They married in 1946 and he remained with her until her death in 2011. He worked in retail for most of his adult life.

Carston was raised in the church, and he remained an avid church goer. He loved baseball, and was a fan of the Dodgers, both here and in Los Angeles. He enjoyed travel; he loved to play cards, and met and kept his best friends playing bid whist.

He was always regarded by many as a quiet, mellow man, who was gracious, and loyal to family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, and leaves one surviving sister-in-law, Frances Pratt; one son, Carston, Jr. and his wife, Robbin; numerous nephews and nieces; as well as cherished friends who treated him as their own.
