Blackshear, 77 of The Village of Harlem, was called home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on May 8, 2019. He was born in Georgia; he was the first son of mother, Kemper Taylor (deceased) and father, David Curtis Sandford (deceased).

He was educated in the Cochran public schools and later attended Pacific College. He left Georgia as a young man. He joined Sharon Baptist Church, served as an Usher, he was appointed Sunday School Teacher/Superintendent and did his Trial Sermon.

In 1977, he was married to the former Christine Cain at Sharon Baptist Church. They have one son. Reverend Blackshear served as Pastor of Greater Zion Hill Baptist Church for forty-two years.

He was a man of faith in God, and a giant in the community (Community Board 10) and across the country. Reverend Blackshear served as President of The Baptist Ministers Conference of Greater New York and Vicinity and The Baptist Ministers Evening Conference of Greater New York and Vicinity. He also served as President of the Progressive National Baptist Convention Eastern Region and he served as an active member/delegate in the New York Progressive Baptist State Convention.
