Rogersville: Charles Douglas Smith, age 72, of Rogersville, left this world of sorrow, Thursday, May 23, 2019 to be with his Lord and loved ones who have gone on before him. Charles was saved 43 years ago at the Little Country Church . His favorite songs were “Amazing Grace” and “Me and Jesus Got our Own Thing Going”.

Charles was formerly employed at the Rogersville Nursing Home in the Hawkins County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Smith was a truck driver and an avid coon hunter. Charles had no children but, he was a very special person to all children.

He was the best fun uncle a child could have, whether related or not. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Powell and Nettie Wallace Smith; brother, Billy Smith; sisters, Ruby Ringley and Edna Wells. Charles leaves behind the love of his life, caretaker and wife of 44 years, Shirley Dean Smith; step-children, Phyllis Jones and B.G. Skeens; grandson, Adam Jones; great-granddaughter, Lil Lexie Jones; brother, Jimmy Smith; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Richard, Janet, Sonya and Kimberly of Caris Healthcare. Visitation hours will be 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville. Graveside service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Highland Cemetery with Pastor Randy Calton officiating.
