Rogersville: Marguerite Lenoir Jarvis Greene (June 23, 1924-May 15, 2019) went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 15, 2019, at the Foley Center in Blowing Rock, NC. She was the daughter of Rev. John Lewis Jarvis and Annie Laurie Hilton Jarvis.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gale Kyle Greene; daughters, JoAnne Greene-Beatty and infant Maura Nell Greene; brothers, John, George, Ervin, twins Nathaniel (N.D.) and Lewis (L. C), and infant Mack Jarvis. She is survived by daughter Mary Gayle Greene-McClune; son-in-law David Gene McClune; grandson Lee Beatty and Lindsey Marlowe; great-granddaughters Vada Jolee Beatty and Elliot Ashby Beatty; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends who were blessed to know her.

She was widowed at a young age and worked to provide an education for her daughters in Music Education and was an inspiration as a career-person to all the young women that she knew. Marguerite was a Rosie the Riveter and worked at Eastman over-seeing huge spindles of silk thread to be used for parachutes during WWII. She managed a country store on Clinch Mountain with her husband for about five years.

She returned to Rogersville and worked in the Bindary at the International Playing Card and Label Company. She retired at age 82 from overseeing the shipping department after working for the company for at least 45 years. A life-long Methodist, Marguerite was a member of Rogersville First United Methodist Church for 64 years.

She loved people. She loved telling tales of her life, and she loved to travel. She traveled throughout the United States as far as California and to Italy; Paris, France; Vienna, Austria; Germany; Amsterdam, Holland; and Mexico.

She loved sewing, cooking, and planting flowers. She was a common sight at the city park walking every day with her dear friend Novella Duncan. To all who knew her, she was an amazing woman with an amazing life, and she would want you to know, “Enjoy the ride”.

Visitation hours will be 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Rogersville United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Church with Dr. Paul Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
