Charles’ Obituary Charles Franklin Yountz of Lexington, NC, began his eternal life in glory on Thursday, May 16, 2019. He was the youngest and fifth child of John Reid Yountz, Sr. and Evelyn Estella Yountz, both of whom preceded him in death. Two brothers, John Reid, Jr. (Louise) and Henry Jackson “Jackie” preceded him in death also.

He is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Holt of Gastonia, and Nancy Simerson (Kenneth) of Lexington. Charles’s death was the culmination of several years of deteriorating health, following a massive stroke in 1987, and several subsequent heart attacks. He was the husband of his devoted wife, Elizabeth Victoria “Vickie”, who loved him dearly for over 60 years.

He was the father of three children, Christopher Reid Yountz of Lexington, Laura Elizabeth Yountz of Greensboro, and Cathy Lynn Yountz of Welcome; grandfather of 8 grandchildren, Serah Brown, Hannah Canty, Mischa Brown, Robert Jamison, John Yountz, Margaret Yountz, Victoria Yountz, and George Yountz; and great grandfather of ten. Charles was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he was involved in the Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs as a youth, attending the 1953 National Scout Jamboree in Irvine, California. As an adult, he served as a Neighborhood Commissioner in the former Uwharrie Council, as an Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 230, and Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 230.

At Trinity, he sang in the choir for several years; sang tenor in the Foundations gospel quartet, and played the harmonica in a bluegrass band. He was the owner of Lexington TV on Main Street. Charles was a brilliant man and was affectionately known among friends as Charlie, could fix almost anything, was devoted to serving his community, his church, and God.

Though his stroke cost him the ability to speak and sing, his mind remained sharp. Now in heaven with his Lord, he has been made perfect. Charles is once again able to sing and talk as he praises and worships the King for the rest of eternity.

While we miss him, we listen for his singing. A celebration of life will be held on May 23rd. The family will receive family and friends in the church parlor at 10:00-10:45 AM prior to the 11:00 service at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lexington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church 902 S. Main St, Lexington, NC 27292 or The Workshop of Davidson, Inc., PO Box 906, Lexington, NC 27292.
