Obituary for Cheryl Ann Shew Thomas Cheryl Ann (Shew) Thomas, 63, of Pittsburg, passed away at 1:05 a.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Integrity Healthcare of Marion. Cheryl was born November 25, 1955 in Marion to James and Geraldine (Barger) Shew. Cheryl was a 1973 graduate of Marion High School.

She also graduated from John A. Logan College with an Associates Degree in Computer Programming. Cheryl was retired, having worked at Maytag in Herrin for several years before it closed. She later worked at Herrin Hospital before her health began to fail.

Cheryl was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader. She also enjoyed going to casinos and playing games on her computer.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and her dog, Buddy. Survivors include the love of her life, Leo Thomas of Pittsburg; two children, Julie (Jason) Carter of Marion and Chris (Jamie) Thomas of Johnston City; four grandchildren, Brandon Thomas, Miranda Carter, Dalton Key and Lexie Thomas; mother, Geraldine Shew of Marion; brother, Ron Shew of Johnston City. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, James Shew and two brothers, Jim and Gerald Shew; two sisters-in-law, Kay Shew and Carol Swann. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City Rev. Steve Utley officiating.

Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements Memorial contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
