Dale Howard Schumaker, age 85, of Appleton, peacefully passed surrounded by family on Friday, November 2, 2018 at ThedaCare Medical Center in Appleton. Dale was born in Red Wing, MN on August 25, 1933 to the late Berlyn and Marie (Raphael) Schumaker. He grew up in East Ellsworth, WI where he graduated Valedictorian with the EHS class of 1951.

Dale then went on to graduate from UW – Madison with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering Magna Cum Laude and was a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honorary Society. On September 13, 1958, he was united in marriage to Lois Wildenberg. The couple enjoyed 45 years together until her passing.

He then married Jonnie Dorn on August 23, 2003. Dale started his career with Marathon – American Can performing 10 years of engineering and research. He then devoted 32 years to Appleton Coated/Appleton Papers, 11 of those years as President/COO/CEO and Chairman, retiring in 1997.

Dale was very active during his lifetime. He has been President of the Appleton Police and Fire Commission since 1976. He has been on the Board of Directors for numerous organizations including Valley Bank and M&I, Fox Valley Technical College Advisory Board, VanHoof Corporation, Goodwill Industries, YMCA, IPS, PPMA, Wisconsin Paper Council and Wisconsin Paper Group, and AWA based in London and Paris.

He also volunteered at St. Joe’s Food Pantry in addition to serving on the Board of Directors there from 2003-2018. He was a member of the Hancock Masonic Lodge 229 F & AM in Ellsworth, Wi. He was a proud teammate of the Old Timers basketball team until 1990.

Dale was a member at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Appleton. Dale is survived by his wife Jonnie and her children; his two sons Dr. Howard (Tina) Schumaker, La Crosse, WI and Brian (Jane) Schumaker, McFarland, WI; a daughter, Stacey (Steve) Schoenke, Hanover, MN; two sisters Mary Barnard and Jeanie (Jim) Schaden, nephew Nick (Khoi) Schaden, 10 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. A funeral service will take place at 11 am on Wednesday, November 7, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 3009 N. Meade St. Appleton, with Rev.

Kurt Hoffman officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9 am until 10:45 am. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dale’s name for the St. Joseph Food Pantry.
