Daniel Roger Rumer, 67, of Oakland, MD, died Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, WV. Born December 17, 1950, in Oakland, he was the son of the late Dorsey C. and Emma C. (Nair) Rumer. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Warren Rumer and two sisters Ellen Simmons and Shirley Pittman.

Daniel was the last jail warden for the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office, where he worked for 25 years. He attended the Jessup Correctional Academy and loved the outdoors and working with wood. He also worked for Snyder’s Cabinets.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia A. Rumer; two daughters, Christy L. Rumer-Bittinger and husband, Roy, Fort Ashby, WV; Beth Ann Tasker and husband, Jason, Oakland; Deanna Murphy, Oakland, who was like a daughter to him; one brother, Dorsey Rumer and wife, Ermal, Oakland; three sisters, Betty Johnson and husband, Jim, San Diego, CA; Mary Simmons, Fairmont, WV; Barbara Tusing, Oakland; four grandchildren, Danielle, Brandon, Aowyn and Reese; one great-granddaughter, Vivianna; several nieces and nephews. According to his wishes, Daniel will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland are assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
