David D. Mattes, 81, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018, in the Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born on February 17, 1937, in Springfield the son of the late Paul and Irene (Burr) Mattes. David graduated from Springfield High School, Wittenberg University; and The Ohio State University, School of Law.

He began his career with the FBI, returned to Springfield in 1966 working in the firm, Cole, Cole and Harmon. In 1973 David began his long service to our community… Read More » as Municipal Judge from 1973-1979, then served as Juvenile Probate Judge from 1980-1996, and lastly Probate Judge from 1996-2003 when he retired. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Springfield.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda (Thomas) Mattes, daughter, Polly (Byron) Burrus, and son, Matthew Mattes, and four grandchildren: Susanna “Sam” Burrus, Joseph, Joshua and Michael Mattes. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 5-8:00 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Private services will be held by the family.

Burial will be in the Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Kiwanis Club of Springfield. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent through www.
