Obituary for David Lee Dilger David Lee Dilger, 64, died Sunday, June 18, 2018, following a heart attack early Saturday morning, despite the heroic efforts of Grady Memorial, Grant and OSU Richard M. Ross hospitals. David was born to James “Jim” Owings Dilger and Lois Ann (Ufferman) Dilger on June 20, 1953, in Laredo, Texas, where Jim was stationed during his service in the U.S. Air Force. The Dilgers later operated a small farm in southwestern Delaware County and a dry cleaning business in the City of Delaware.
In his youth, David participated in 4H, and showed pigs at the Delaware County Fair. He graduated from Buckeye Valley High School in 1971. After working briefly on oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, he began a career in the banking industry, working his way up from clerkships to Vice President of Investor Reporting at San Francisco Federal.
When San Francisco Federal was acquired by First Nationwide Bank in 1995, he was given a substantial severance package, and used it to return to college, obtaining a degree in accounting from Golden Gate University in 1999. Following graduation he briefly joined NorthPointe Communications, an Internet telecommunications company that went down with its sock puppet cousins during the DotCom Bust of 2001. After reconnecting with Cindy Brooman, his sweetheart from 1974, he gave up his primo apartment on Polk Street, San Francisco, and returned to Delaware in 2001.
He joined Fifth Third Bank as a manager of investor reporting in 2002, and married Cindy in November of the same year. In January 2007 he was hired as an analyst in investor reporting at the Easton headquarters of JPMorgan Chase Bank in Columbus, Ohio. David enjoyed bicycling, listening to music, going to the Little Brown Jug, and watching football (go Buckeyes and San Francisco 49ers!
). He loved old muscle cars, and would often watch Barret-Jackson and Meacum auto auctions for hours on end. He liked to cook, and enjoyed quiet time reading The New York Times.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lois Dilger, and by a brother, Richard “Ric” Dilger, who was fatally injured in an automobile accident in 1974 at the age of 16. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; sisters Jann Martin (Ben) and Lisa Thompson (Ron); three nephews (Kyle Martin, Brad and Kevin Thompson) and three nieces (Michelle Smallets, Amanda Martin, Tara Horrmann); his best friends, Jim Breece and Joey, Cindy’s Triton cockatoo; and by numerous extended family members. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at Robinson Funeral Home.
