Deborah’s Obituary Deborah Suzanne (Pennington) Smathers, 64, of Willow Wood, OH, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, WV. She was born in Lawrence County, OH on January 8, 1955 to the late Bobby and Betty (Marshall) Pennington. She was the wife of Danny Smathers, whom she married, August 28, 2003, who survives.

Deborah was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and was an editor for the Ironton Tribune and Ashland Independent newspapers for many years. She loved spending time with her family and she was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son; Charles William Pennington.

In addition to her husband she is survived by a son; Bobby Paul (Michele Batten) Childers of South Point, OH, two daughters; Alicia (Tim Matney) Childers of Ironton, OH and Courtni (Ryan) Thomas of Ashland, KY. Two stepsons; Todd (Shannon) Smathers and Brian Smathers, both of Willow Wood, OH, two sisters; Bobbi (Randy) Gilmore of Kitts Hill, OH and Kathi Bridges of Hanging Rock, OH, a brother; Greg (Sharon) Pennington of Hanging Rock, OH. Ten grandchildren; Trinity, Aleigha, and Shaylin Matney of Ironton, OH, Mason Thomas of Ashland, KY, Abigale Hensley of Ironton, OH, Shawn Chapman of Coal Grove, OH, Jeremiah Chapman of Ironton, Oh, Tobey Smathers, Katie Smathers, and Chris Pemberton all of Willow Wood, OH and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm, Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 South 6th Street. Ironton, Ohio with Pastor Scott Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, 824 Lorain St, Ironton, OH.

Visitation will be 10:00am until the time of the service on Thursday.
