Obituary of DIANA TRIPOLI-TILGHMAN Surrounded by family and friends, Diana passed away peacefully at her home in Pocomoke City, Maryland on Friday, October 26, 2018, after a brief illness. Diana was born on September 9, 1957 in Buffalo, NY. She was the loving daughter of Ruth A. and Dominic M Tripoli who have preceded her in passing.
She grew up in Claymont and Newark, DE and attended Christiana HS. She attended Wor Wic College for Computer Science and Programming where she was also a lab instructor and taught continuing education computer courses at night. She married Ronald Tilghman in 1974 and lived briefly in Gelnhausen, Germany.
After returning to the States, Diana and Ron resided in Newark, DE and she worked for DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, DE as a Golf Starter where she found her love for golf and tennis. In 1984 she attended IT Tech School and obtained a certificate in Data and Word processing. Diana and Ron resided for many years in Salisbury, MD and owned several homes with her husband in the area.
Diana worked at First Shore Federal S&L as a Micro Computer Operations Specialist and Mortgage loan processor from 1983 to 1987. She was self employed as a personal computer consultant from 1987 to 1991 while she also obtained her Real Estate license and worked under the brokerage firms of Long and Foster and Martin Groff Construction as a Realtor and Rental Agent. Diana then went to work for the National Park Services, Assateague Island National Sea Shore as a Computer Specialist from 1992 to 2009.
She worked for the U.S. FISH & Wildlife Service servicing 8 Refuges out of the Northeast North Carolina area as an Information Technology IT Specialist from 2009 to 2012 when she took early retirement. Before and after retirement she was always extremely physically active in sports. Playing golf, tennis and pickleball.
She started a pickleball league in Chincoteague, VA that continues to grow in popularity even today. She was an active volunteer and member of the USAPA. Org, helping organize many pickleball events in Chincoteague, VA, Pocomoke, MD, Ocean Pines, MD and Seaford, DE and she played in numerous pickleball tournaments throughout the region.
She was an active member of the YMCA in Pocomoke, MD working out daily and had a full professional gym in her home. Diana was a very tenacious, intelligent, independent and successful woman! After her divorce, she bought and sold several rental properties and owned her own home in Pocomoke, MD for almost 15 years.
She was a loyal and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend to many! She is survived by her son, Wesley Tilghman of Manassas, VA, brother, Charles Tripoli of Rincon, Puerto Rico, sister Louise Ashcraft and husband Richard of Kissimmee, FL, niece Lisa Domingez and husband Nectalih of Glen Burnie, MD, niece Angela Cottingham and husband Gary of Georgetown, DE, nephew Danny Digsby and wife Luz of Orlando, FL, brother-in-law Mark Tilghman of Surfside Beach, SC and partner Dennis Tuttle of Salisbury, MD as well as several great nephews, nieces and numerous wonderful loving friends in both the pickleball world, The National Park Service and The U.S. FISH & Wildlife Service. Services will be at the Holloway Funeral home in Pocomoke, MD on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2:00pm, with viewing held one hour prior to the service and on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
Interment will be at the First Baptist Cemetery in Pocomoke, MD immediately following the services. In lieu of cards, gifts or flowers, Diana requested donations be made in her honor to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 107 Vine Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.
