Obituary of Donald Tilghman Dr. Donald Matthews Tilghman 82 of Eden, MD, died Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Born in Salisbury, MD June 11, 1936, he was the son of the late James and Jessie Tilghman of Pocomoke City, MD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James E. Tilghman.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Harrison-Tilghman; his children: Lori Wheeler, Michael Tilghman, Kerri Tilghman, Rick Tilghman, and Jessica Douglas and grandchildren: John, Mandy, Joey, Rachel, Madison, Jenna, Mia, Josie, and Raegan Dr. Donald M. Tilghman was born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and lived in Pocomoke City, Maryland where he attended Pocomoke City High School. After graduation, he continued his education at the U. Of Maryland-College Park and then was accepted to the U. Of MD School of Dentistry where he graduated in 1961. Dr. Tilghman entered an internship/residency program at Johns Hopkins University/Hospital from 1961-1963.

It was at this time he was accepted into graduate school to study medicine at the U. Of Pennsylvania 1963-1964. After completing his graduate studies, he became Chief Resident in the department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at the U. of Michigan Hospital from 1964-1965. Following his education, Dr. Tilghman held the following professional positions: Chief of OMS-Cleveland VA Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio; Academic Instructor of OMS-U.

of Case Western School of Dentistry/Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio; Associate Professor of OMS-U. of Maryland School of Dentistry/Hospital, Baltimore, MD until 1978; Professor of OMS-U. of MD School of Dentistry 1978-1998 as well as holding a joint Associate Professorship of OMS at Johns Hopkins University/Hospital until 2000; Chief of the Division of Dentistry and OMS-Johns Hopkins University/Hospital; Director of OMS Training Program-U.

of MD School of Dentistry/Hospital-1987-1992; Chief Attending-Maryland Shock Trauma-1975-1998. Private Practitioner-OMS in Cockeysville, MD, Easton, MD, and currently in Salisbury, MD. Dr. Tilghman had absolute love and devotion to the field of OMS/Implantology and his work ethic was unlike anything anyone could emulate.

He has trained hundreds of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons over his 50 plus years. He worked tirelessly to advance, improve, protect and expand the fields of OMS/Implantology. He believed in never trying something first in medicine/dentistry because he believed in the gold standard of medicine: “Do No Harm”.

Dr. Tilghman was very educated, well read, easy going, caring, giving, generous, kind and was a humble man who would do anything for anyone and would expect nothing in return. Dr. “T”, as many referred to him, loved life in general especially his wife Debra, their children and grandchildren as well as the many animals that they rescued and fostered. Dr. Donald M. Tilghman will be missed by all!

A funeral service was held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 11:00 am at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Salisbury, MD. A visitation was held on Thursday, September 27, 2018, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury and on Friday, September 28, 2018, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 am at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, Salisbury, MD. Rev.

Brian Moss officiated. Interment was held at the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church Cemetery. A memorial service on Monday, October 22, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Westminster Hall, 500 W.
