Domenica’s Obituary Domenica Grace “Gracie” (Catterino) Howe, 89, of Liverpool, N.Y. was welcomed into her Savior’s arms on Saturday. She was born in Manlius, NY, graduated from Manlius High School, and completed accounting classes at University College. The majority of her professional career was at Ossmann Instruments, Inc. as their corporate secretary/ treasurer and Director of Operations.

She also served on Ossmann’s Board of Directors. Her organizational skills, sharp mind, determination and “take charge” attitude was rewarded with her being chosen “Secretary of the Year” in 1977. As a courageous woman in management, she was an inspiration to many.

After her husband’s death, she became a very active volunteer –Liverpool Library(she loved her Book Club), Rescue Mission, The Survivor Tent for Susan Koman, Race for The Cure, Salvation Army, and was selected “Exceptional Community Volunteer” presented by United Way in 2010. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph the Worker Church and was active in the St. Joseph’s Senior Group, being chair of several committees. One of her favorite responsibilities was leading the Group in prayer before their monthly meetings.

Grace was a member of AARP Chapter #243 for over 20 years, traveling to Albany when an important bill needed to be passed. She was also a Senior Advisory Board member of The Aging Studies Institute of Syracuse University. Gracie was a 22-year member of The Fit for the Next Fifty Senior Exercise Program at Onondaga Lake Park under the direction of one of her angels, Mary Pagan.

When interviewed by the CNY News Team at Onondaga Lake, she said, my secret is “you gotta move! ” and that she did! Not to be left out would be her unwavering loyalty to SU Football and Basketball Teams with her “Syracuse Charge!

” cheer! Grace is predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Bill Howe, and her brothers, Leo Catterino, Joseph Cato and sister, Teresa Zupan. Grace is survived by her loving daughter Barbara (Joseph) Paeno; beloved grandchildren Joanna Grace Paeno and Joseph William (Abbie) Paeno; great grandchildren, Audrey, Joey, Giovanni, and Leonardo Paeno; nieces Joanne Kolodziecyk, Patty Dunn, Marcia Howe, Debbie Walker, Cindy Zamorski and nephews Jimmy Zupan and Michael Cato; several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and so many dear friends.

Grace had that amazing ability to make anyone she met feel uniquely special and that’s why those who loved her called her “Amazing Grace”. Family and friends may honor Gracie’s passion for life from 4-6 pm Thursday, February 14th, at Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St. Liverpool, NY. Prayer Services will be held on Friday at 10:15 am at the funeral home and 11:00 am in St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1001 Tulip St. where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.

The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt. Contributions in Gracie’s memory may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave. , Syracuse, NY 13208.
