Margaret “Peg”‘s Obituary Margaret “Peg” (Youngren) Burden, 91, of Liverpool was born in Gloversville, NY on August 2, 1927, the daughter of the late Otto R. and Helene (Scribner) Youngren. Peg graduated from Gloversville High School and the State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelor of Arts degree and where she continued her graduate work. She was a member of Phi Delta Sorority.

Her teaching career included schools in Corning, Syracuse and Baldwinsville. Margaret furthered her education receiving a Master of Library Science degree from the Syracuse University School of Information Studies where she was elected to Beta Phi Mu, National Library Honorary Society. During her career at Onondaga County Library she was head of White and Hazard Branch Libraries.

Peg served on the Boards of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Syracuse, the Syracuse University School of Information Studies Alumni, the Syracuse University Alumnae Club, the Corinthian Club, the George and Rebecca Barnes Foundation and Westminster Manor. She was Past President and Board Member of the Syracuse Branch of the English Speaking Union. Margaret was a member of the First Presbyterian Church United of Syracuse for over 40 years where she served as Deacon, Elder, and Church School Teacher.

In later years she was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Liverpool. She is predeceased by her husband, Arthur C. Burden in 1972. Surviving are her son, Curtis F. Burden of Belle Harbor, NY, her daughter, Elizabeth Figura of Jacksonville, FL, and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Taylor Figura.

The family will greet friends on Monday, April 1, 2019 from 10:30 am to 11:00 am at the Maurer Funeral Home Inc. 300 Second St, Liverpool with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Spring Burial will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Northville, NY. The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the staff of Elderwood Nursing Home for the excellent care that was extended to Peg over the past three months.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Peg’s memory to King of Kings Lutheran Church or the Syracuse Corinthian Club.
