OBITUARY Donald Stearns Putnam February 23, 1932 – December 22, 2018 Donald Stearns Putnam, 86, of Wethersfield, died Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Apple Rehabilitation Center in Colchester. He was born February 23, 1932 to Samuel and Helen Putnam. Don was a licensed pilot and back in the day he enjoyed flying his family and dog Max to Block Island.

He loved the CT shore and the family beach house in Giants Neck, where the family spent many summers making memories. He was an avid boater, hunter and fisherman, spending many days with his brother Lee fishing off of Montauk, LI. He was an accomplished entrepreneur and artist, making custom knives and engineering heat conducting coils, all out of his home shop which was a favorite drop in spot for many local friends.

He served in the United States Air Force and was an accomplished archer for Wing Archery and Bear Archery. He is proceeded in death by his wife, Mary Belle Stroud, his son, Gary Putnam and sisters, June Hogle and Joan Tupper. He is survived by his three children; Pamela Franco and her husband David, Wendie Putnam, all of Austin, TX and Douglas Putnam and his wife Leslie of Colchester, six grandchildren; Sarah Franco, Carly and Spencer Putnam, Scott and Mitchell Putnam and Lisa Leavitt, one great grandson, Mason Leavitt, his brother, Lee Putnam and several nieces and nephews.
