Donald M. Tomsic, 81, of Kewanee, died Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 5:00 am at Hillcrest Home in Geneseo. Don was born November 18, 1936 in Kewanee, the son of Martin and Myrtle (Cole) Tomsic. He graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1954.

After a stent in the Army he received an Associates Degree in business and accounting. He married Betty Dexter on August 9, 1958 at the First Methodist Church, Kewanee, she survives. He was preceded in death by his parents. Don served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957, at the time of discharge he was a Specialist 3rd Class. He was also in the Kewanee National Guard.

He retired from Komatsu in Peoria in 1999, where he was a purchasing agent. Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Kewanee. Don was an Eagle Scout-Silver Beaver, Order of the Arrow (Vigil), Wood Badge, Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Troop Committee Chairman with the Boy Scouts of America.

He led three expeditions to Philmont Scout Ranch, NM. Don was also a Master Mason, past Master, past Priest of York Rite, past Commander of Knights Templar, past Master of Fort Armstrong, treasurer of Masonic Foundation for 15 years for the Kewanee Lodge 159. Don spent 30 years on the WHS football chain gang.

Kewanee BI-Centennial King, and beard contest winner. Don organized the Cub Scout Unit at Belle Alexander School. He was a PTA President at Belle.

He was also a member of the Model “T” Ford and Model “A” Clubs of America. He was a board member of the Saxon Community Cemetery Association and the First United Methodist Church. Don especially enjoyed spending time with his wife Betty of 60 years, children and grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be at 11:00 am, Monday, September 17, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, Kewanee. Pastor Kevin Drane will officiate. Burial will be in the Saxon Community Cemetery.

Military Rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be at 6:45 pm on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the funeral home.
