Donna’s Obituary Donna Mae Hughes, age 79, of Aplington, Iowa was born the daughter of Walter George and Berna Hilda (Chinnow) Niemeyer in Waltham, Minnesota. On October 3, 1956, Donna was united in marriage with Bill J. Hughes at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. To this marriage a daughter, Susan Ann Hughes was born.

Bill and Donna were later divorced. Donna was a homemaker and an artistic woman with a talent for the arts, including cooking, sewing, gardening, and music. She made homemade jam with fruits from the garden and was a natural at Tole Painting.

At Christmas time, she baked a vast assortment of cookies in beautiful shapes. She also made homemade breads and pizza. Donna played various musical instruments including the piano, organ and accordion.

She enjoyed traveling to almost every state in the continental United States. Donna was a woman who would speak her mind and was kind to animals. Donna was a good wife and a mother.

Donna died Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Maple Manor Village in Aplington. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Walter V. Niemeyer. Donna is survived by her ex-husband Bill J. Hughes; their daughter Susan A. Hughes and her husband, Marshall Goodwin of Pittsburgh, Pa.

; one sister-in-law, Laurie Niemeyer, wife of the late Walter V. Niemeyer and nephew Michael Niemeyer. No services are being planned.
