Donna Sue Claxton, 88, of Washington Terrace, passed away peacefully at her home, Jan 13th 2019. Because of her warm personality, she will be remembered with love and affection by all who knew her. She was born the first of four children on Feb 3rd 1930 in Myrtle, Mississippi to Mack Gilbert and Emma Sue Floyd.
She married her husband and soul mate, Ralph, in April of 1947. They were married for over 65 years and had three children; Sharon Lavonne Kinne (Roger), Ralph Dean (Toni) and James Gilbert (Teri). Her husband worked for the U.S. govt.
and had assignments that sent them to work and live in Japan, California, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and later to Utah. While in Japan, she and her family took advantage of all of the wonderful opportunities the country had to offer. She even climbed to the top of Mount Fuji while expecting her 3rd child.
While in Japan, she became a member of the Cryptomeria chapter No. 4 order of the Eastern Star. When her husband retired, they moved to Mississippi for a short time, where they tried their hand at country life, but eventually returned to Utah to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Donna was employed by Roy City and retired as the City Treasurer. She always said it was a wonderful job, working with wonderful people. She was an active member of Community United Methodist Church in Washington Terrace.
Donna was also an excellent cook and loved to make people happy with a good meal or a batch of her “Great Grandma Brownies” (GGB’s). Donna is survived by her daughter, Sharon of West Haven, son James, of West Haven, 14 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Husband Ralph, Son Ralph Dean, brother Sam, and sisters Pat and Carol.
Special thanks to her many friends, neighbors and her mail carrier, Jilyn, who frequently checked in on her. Her family would like to personally thank Brenda Postie and Ashley Wilkinson of Onecare Hospice for their special care and attention. Family and friends are invited to the viewing at Myers Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 W. Roy, UT on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 6-8 PM.
A memorial service will be held at Community United Methodist Church, 163 W. 4800 S. Washington Terrace, UT on Saturday, January 19, 2019, beginning at 10:00 AM. Pastor Gary Haddock officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Roy City Cemetery.
