For God so loved the world the He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life – John 3:16 Dorothy Jeanne Lawson, of Rogersville, departed peacefully into her everlasting life on Thursday, March 21, 2019, due to complications from her battle with cancer. Dorothy was born on August 5, 1943 to Rev. J.H. and Kate Stogner in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

She moved to Rogersville in 1954 when her father became the Director of Missions for the Holston Valley Baptist Association. She was a member of the Rogersville High School Class of 1961 and attended East Tennessee Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She married the love of her life, Sidney Kyle Lawson, nearly 56 years ago on May 31, 1963.

Upon completing her cosmetology license, Dorothy spent the first several years of their life together as the owner/operator of Salon De’ora and Rogersville School of Cosmetology. As her husband’s business grew, she closed her school to become a full-time secretary for Lawson Construction C., Inc. which just celebrated 50 years in business under their leadership. However, her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and Nana.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Sidney; two daughters, Denise (Jim) Collier, and Stacy (Eric) Brewer; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Trey (Courtney) and their girls, Tessa and Maya (due in April), Mark (Melissa), and Lacy Collier, Bronson, Sydney, and Brody Brewer. She is also survived by her siblings, James (Carwin), Ronald (Darlene), and Doris Stogner, as well as Esta (Larry) Campbell; siblings-in-law, Kindall (Brenda), Mike (Elinor), and David (Retha) Lawson, as well as Rebecca Rogers; and several nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She was a beloved Sunday School teacher at Persia Baptist Church and the Mother Advisor for the Rogersville Chapter of Rainbow Girls foe several years where she earned the cherished title “Mom DJ”.

She was one of the founding members of Hope Community Church where she served on the finance committee along with many other endeavors but she loved greeting visitors most of all. Dorothy had an extravagant love for her friends and family. She shared her faith freely and it was her desire that everyone who came in to her life would know Jesus as their Savior that they might enjoy everlasting life in His eternal glory.

The family invites you to attend a celebration of life service which will begin at 6:00pm on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at Hope Community Church’s Rogersville Campus. Rev. Rip Noble will be officiating.
