Douglas’ Obituary Douglas R. Wernet, 68, of Liverpool passed away on Monday. Born and raised in Canton, OH. He was a resident of Liverpool since 1981.

Douglas was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, attended Walsh College, Xavier University, John Carroll and graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor’s degree in History. He was franchise owner of Lifetouch Corp for 26 years, retiring in 2002. An active parishioner, he was an Usher, Lecture, Eucharistic Minister.

He chaired a support group, Breathe Easy Syracuse. He was active in the American Lung, CNY Food Bank Association, Samaritan Center, Onondaga Yacht Club, volunteer for Meals On Wheels, and an avid golfer, joker and storyteller. Doug has returned to college by donating his body as an anatomical gift to Upstate Medical University.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly Urban Wernet, son, John D. Wernet of Port Jefferson, LI, daughter Catherine C. Pllana of Camillus, 2 brothers, Greg (Sue) Wernet of Massillon, OH and Joe (Cari) Wernet of Parker, CO, 5 sisters, Deborah (Pat) Cahill of Massillon, OH, Marie (Steve) Santangelo of Dublin, OH, Reyne (Peter) Fanton of Avon Lake, OH, Sharon (Chris) Vitale of Westerville, OH, Christine Wernet of Aiken, SC, 2 grandchildren, Ariana Pllana and Adrian Pllana, aunt & uncle Mary & Bernie McDonald, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins. Saturday, February 16, 2019, a calling hour will be from 9 to10 am, before the Memorial Mass at 10 am at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 259 E. Onondaga St., Syracuse. Contributions may be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

The family would like to thank the many friends, staff of Hospice, Doctors and Nurses and Cathedral members for their compassionate care and prayers. Doug’s family and friends meant everything to him and he meant everything to them and Annie too.
