Eric Emerson Moffitt, of Rockport, died in peace on January 2, 2019. Born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, on July 7, 1952, Eric was the beloved son of the late Emerson Moffitt and Helen (MacDonald) Moffitt. He was the loving father of Trevor and Barclay Moffitt and the cherished parent partner and former husband of Roxanne Pignanelli.

He is also survived by two sisters, Celene Lyon of Rockport and her husband Geof, and Laurie Moffitt Barr and her husband Michael of Victoria, BC, Canada; as well as by many nieces, nephews, Moffitt, MacDonald and Pignanelli relatives, and friends. Eric was much loved, with a larger than life personality and big spirit. His friends and family describe him as kind, humorous, witty, great fun and having a zest for life.

His passions and strong opinions were many, including social and political activism honed as an SEIU union organizer/negotiator and political campaign worker, an enthusiasm for sports deepened by many years of a national and international sports producing and reporting, and music as an aficionado of jazz, blues, R&B, rock and more. A highlight was the radio broadcast of the 1985 Live Aid concert. Eric was a good friend, encouraging and lifting others in need of support.

His greatest joy was his creative, artistic family: Trevor, Barclay and Roxanne. A Celebration of Eric’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations for: Southern Poverty Law Center, www.

splcenter.org and The Arts Academy at Pueblo County High in Colorado, www. taapch.org. His family suggests you celebrate Eric the way he lived – love deeply, live enthusiastically, work for peace and social equality, hug and bless each other, tell good stories and share a laugh.
