Evelyn’s Obituary Evelyn (Bergey) Alderfer, 96, of The Community At Rockhill, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019. Born September 19, 1922, in Mainland, she was the daughter of the late Ezra and Minnie (Moyer) Bergey. She graduated with honors from Lansdale High School where she was an active member of the debating team.

She married Stanley D. Alderfer of Souderton on May 11, 1943. For 20 years, she and her husband owned and operated Alderfer’s Market on Hillside Avenue in Souderton. Upon selling the store to Curtis Stout in 1965, she went to work for Union National Bank, both as a teller as well as working in Public Relations and the Marketing Department.

Mrs. Alderfer and her husband lived on Ridge Avenue in Souderton for 50 years. After her husband’s death in 2001, she moved to Rockhill Mennonite Community where she was active as a volunteer. She was known for her humorous Pennsylvania Dutch monologues at church, civic and social affairs.

Her hobbies were golf, bowling and cooking. An active member of Zion Mennonite Church of Souderton for 68 years, she was active with the youth and with seasonal decorating of the church. Surviving is a daughter, Jane Rahn and her husband, Robert Rahn, of Telford; two grandchildren: Rebecca Harwick and her husband, Christopher, of Telford; and Robert Jason Rahn and his wife, Mindy, of Quakertown; and four great grandchildren, Madasyn and Kailee Harwick, and Braxton and Gunnar Rahn.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Carlton Bergey, who passed away in 1980. Funeral services will be held privately with burial at Zion Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville, PA 18960, or to The Community At Rockhill, 3250 State Road, Sellersville, PA 18960.
