It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Fabyn on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at John Muir Medical Center in Concord. Fabyn was born in Sedro-Woolley, WA, on January 2, 1944, to Allen Browning and Elizabeth LaVera (Smith) Hanson, joining his older siblings, Claudean, Darlene and Errol. He actively participated in all school events and was especially happy to be captain and quarter back of his football team and to play basketball.

Majoring in Business and Economics at Central Washington University, Fabyn graduated in 1966 and started his life’s work in the insurance industry. In 1979 he moved to San Francisco and joined Transamerica Insurance where he enjoyed his position as Vice President and Northern CA District Manager. After a remarkable 50-year career, Fabyn retired in 2006 from West Calloway Insurance.

Many hobbies sparked Fabyn’s interest, like boating, golfing, photography, skiing, travelling and cruising. He was proud to be a founder of the Bay Area Central Washington University Alumni Association and he loved to sit on his deck to read and plan functions for the Association and prospective students. He served on the Board of Directors of the Driftwood Yacht Club and was Commodore of the Aahmes Yacht Club in 2000.

Most recently, he was a member of the Contra Costa Country Club. Fabyn had a passion for volunteerism and charitable pursuits. He joyfully supported organizations such as Meals on Wheels (where he made friends and regularly visited folks who were shut-ins), Pleasant Hill Library/Friends of the Library (helping to raise funds for the new library), and his favorites, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Shriner’s Hospitals.

He established the Fabyn B. Hanson Scholarship Foundation to help students from Skagit Valley, WA, to attend Central Washington University. Fabyn is survived by his loving wife Pat, sister Claudean (Gary) Talbert, brother-in-law Jack (Mona) Kerr, and sister-in-law Laura Hanson, nieces Megan, Cheryl, Carol and Patty, and nephews Brett, Bill, Bob and Troy. He also leaves many cousins in the Tesconi family of Santa Rosa, and his sweet little furry love, Bella.

Preceding his passing are his parents, brother-in-law Eddie Davis, sister Darlene Kerr, and brother Errol Hanson. The love of Fabyn’s life was his adoring wife, Pat, who came from Boston. They met while she was visiting in San Francisco to attend a Greek convention and the rest is history; they were married for 39 wonderful years.

Kind, fun loving, generous and gentlemanly are a good combination of attributes that made up Fabyn’s character. He had a smile that would light up a room, and, to know him was to love him. He will be greatly missed.

Honoring Fabyn’s request, a “Celebration of Life” is planned for Saturday, May 12, 2018, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Contra Costa Country Club, 801 Golf Club Road, Pleasant Hill. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CWU Foundation, 400 East University Way, Ellensburg, WA 98926-7508 in memory of Fabyn B. Hanson Scholarship Foundation.
