Garner L. Boyd August 07, 1928 – March 16, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Garner L. Boyd, 90, of McAlester, died Saturday, March 16, in McAlester. The family will welcome friends at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, March 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the North Town Church of Christ with Randy Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Bill Coop, Randy Walters, Mark Cates, Jerry Mathews, Joe Clifton and Greg Steidley. Honorary pallbearers are Clark Rhyne, Pake McEntire, Robin Lacy, Roy Allen, Bob Cates, Jim Kelley, Joe Wilson, Tony Housley, Greg Hubbard, George Marcangeli and the men of the Northtown Church of Christ. Garner Boyd was born on Aug.

7, 1928 in Maxwell, Ok. to Arthur and Emma (Hischa) Boyd. He grew up mainly in the Ti Valley area but spent his teen years in California.

He returned to Oklahoma as a young man and settled in Kiowa. He married Betty Newman on Nov. 3, 1951 and in 1981 they moved to McAlester where they have lived since.

Garner was an independent contractor for the U.S. Postal Service for many years, serving rural Pittsburg County with mail delivery. Garner believed in staying fit and loved to walk on a regular basis. Important things to Garner included his family, his church, and country music.

He was a long-time member of the Northtown Church of Christ. Garner is survived by his wife, Betty Boyd; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Curtis Burnham; a son, Danny Boyd; grandchildren, Amanda Adams and husband Brent, Cody Brantley, Rhett Brantley and wife Jamie, Jake Boyd and wife Savannah, and Kortney Mann and husband Cameron; great grandchildren, Jake, Luke, William and Elle Adams, Olivia, Rylee and Matthew Brantley, and Dallas and Drue Boyd; and a brother, Larry Sparks. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Wanda Hatton, and 2 brothers, Mack Boyd and Kenneth Turner.
