Gene’s Obituary Gene Russel Grainger, 63, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019, in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was born on April 1, 1955, in Warrensburg, Missouri, the son of Bob and Norma Jean (Kennedy) Grainger. He graduated from College High School in 1973.

He attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri, while training as a fireman, then a paramedic. He worked in emergency medicine over 30 years in Warrensburg, Kansas City, Weston, Richmond, and Lawson. Gene’s passions included fishing; working on trucks with his boys, Nathan and Wade; discussing his love of all things conservative; and living the life of a patriotic American.

To that end, he was an active member of the Bentonville American Legion. He will be remembered for his wickedly dry sense of humor, love of family, love of the flag, boisterous laugh, and selfless disposition. Surviving are his parents, Bob and Norma Jean Grainger of Chilhowee, Missouri; beloved wife of 18 years, Donna of the home; children, Wade Grainger of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Nathan Grainger of Weston, Missouri; Jim Stokes of Woodbridge, Virginia; and Ashleigh Stokes of Mission, Kansas; sister Pamela Grainger Tilson and her husband Bob, both of Ashburn, Virginia; two grandchildren; two nephews; and four nieces.

A service of memory will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, Missouri. He will be buried in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Gene Grainger Memorial Scholarship of Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville, Arkansas.
