Lloyd’s Obituary Lloyd Milton Franklin, age 87, of Knob Noster, Missouri died Monday, January 21st, 2019, at Bothwell Hospital in Sedalia, Missouri surrounded by his family. He was born on January 29th, 1931, in Johnson County, near Grover Township, Missouri, north of Knob Noster, a son of Stella Marie (Kendrick) and Thomas W Franklin. He has resided in the Knob Noster area all of his life, where he attended Knob Noster High School and graduated in 1949.
Lloyd married Nina “Mitch” Franklin on June 19th, 1964. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was a self-employed owner of Franklin Auto Body Shop for many years, where in later years he and Mitch opened an antique store in the same building.
Lloyd also worked for the Knob Noster School District from 1985 to 2000 as a school bus driver. He managed maintenance of the Knob Noster Cemetery from 1994 to 2017 where he was elected to Board of Directors on April 4, 1995. He was elected as Vice-President from April 4, 2000 – 2003, and then was elected as President from April 1, 2003-April 4, 2017.
At present he is still a board member. Lloyd was active in the community; he served on the Knob Noster School Board from 1971 to 1985. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Knob Noster, where he served as an elder.
He was also a very active member of the Knob Noster Lions Club, where he donated many hours in the concession stands at the softball fields. Lloyd enjoyed taking Mitch and the kids on family vacations. After opening the antique shop he and Mitch enjoyed traveling around to antique stores.
His hobbies included going to antique car shows, restoring antique cars, which would usually be displayed in the Knob Noster Fall Festival parade. He loved listening to big band sound and jazz music, collecting Rat Pack and Pepsi memorabilia, and reading Hot Rod magazines. Surviving are nine children and their families: Ben Franklin, Sarah Franklin, Matt Franklin, Josh Franklin, Teri (Bryan) Parks, Gail (David) Koehler, all of Knob Noster, Patricia (Jim) Hankins of Sedalia, MO, Susan Palomo of Independence, MO, and Joel (Sara) Franklin of Warrensburg, MO; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years; Nina (Mitch) Franklin, parents; Stella Marie and Thomas W. Franklin, 3 brothers and their wives; Thomas E (Genelle) Franklin, Joseph Lee (Alice) Franklin, Chester E (Lola) Franklin; and 2 great-grandchildren, Keagan C. Palomo and Faith Hurd. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 26, at the First Christian Church in Knob Noster, MO. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm prior to service.
The Reverend Don Hill will be officiating. Burial will be at Knob Noster Cemetery. Pallbearers are Larry Franklin, Jeff Smith, Carey Sunderland, David Koehler, Bryan Parks, and Jim Hankins.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Knob Noster Youth Sports Association Mitch Franklin Scholarship and may be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips Funeral Home.
