George A. Deem, 78, of Andalusia, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at his home. Graveside services for George will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Andalusia Cemetery. A Celebration of George’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 6th at the Andalusia Lions Club from 1 to 4 p.m. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Andalusia Volunteer Ambulance Service. George was born on July 22, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa, a son of Harlan and Martha (Quigley) Deem. He married Helen K. “Peggy” Van Pelt on December 26, 1956 in Davenport.

Peggy passed away April 1, 2010. George worked as an Operating Engineer for Valley Construction for over 25 years, retiring in 2002. He was a proud member of Operating Engineers Local #150.

George enjoyed riding motorcycles, watching NASCAR and football, spending time with his family, and watching his grandkids’ sporting events. Left to cherish George’s memory are his children, Donell (Mike) Hollon, Taylor Ridge, James Deem, Andalusia, Mindy (Mike) Hamilton, Coal Valley, and Donald (Dawn) Deem, Taylor Ridge; grandchildren, Melissa, Dana, Tyler, Hailey, Brayden and Connor; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Carol Macumber; brother, Carl Deem; his special pet, Tilly and many other loving family members and friends.
