Obituary for George Andrew Horvath George A. Horvath, 81, of Naples, FL passed away peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2018 after sudden complications from battling blood cancer. Formerly of Fort Lauderdale, FL, George had been a Naples and Bonita Springs resident since the early 90’s. George was born on June 12, 1937 in New Brunswick, NJ, the only son of the late Julius A. and Jeanette L. (Drugos) Horvath.
George was a veteran of the United States Air Force, honorably serving from 1956 to 1960 as an Aircraft Mechanic. Immediately after his honorable discharge from the Air Force, George obtained his Draftsman Degree at a vocational college in New Brunswick, NJ and moved to sunny Fort Lauderdale, FL in 1962. George’s accomplished career began as a Draftsman with Causeway Lumber Company in Fort Lauderdale before transferring to the company’s Bonita Springs location in the early 90’s where he retired at age 71 in 2008 as Sales Manager after 40+ years of service.
In his retirement, George was very active as a creative inventor and a selfless community volunteer. George brilliantly created a prototype model of an ergonomically-designed food dish for cats or dogs. George also diligently served as a CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) volunteer for Collier County and North Naples Fire District from 2008 to 2012 while completing multiple training courses and rescue drills.
George was an avid fly fisherman who also loved the mountains of North Carolina, building model airplanes, storytelling and spending time with his beloved significant other, loving family and countless loyal friends. George is survived by his loving children, Andrew S. Horvath of Boca Raton, FL, Laura A. Horvath of Deerfield Beach, FL and Christopher J. Horvath of Pompano Beach, FL; Sister, Diane T. (Ronald) Gross of Parkland, FL; Significant other, Darlene Kosolowski of Naples, FL; three nieces: Dawn Smutz-DeLugo, Sherri (Gross) Linares, Marla (Gross) Millar; a nephew, Paul Smutz and a brother-in-law, John J. Smutz, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Preston-Horvath; Sister, Jean A. (Horvath) Smutz; and Nephew, John J. Smutz, Jr. In respect of George’s wishes, he will be cremated and later buried at his family plot at St. Peter’s Cemetery in New Brunswick, NJ. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate his life on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail South, Bonita Springs, FL 34134.
