Obituary for George Harris, Jr. George Thomas Harris, Jr., 75, passed away at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois. George was born on June 14, 1943, in Gulfport, Mississippi, to George Thomas Harris, Sr. and Eulah Augusta (Breedlove) Harris. He had worked as an appliance technician for Craine Furniture in Murphysboro.

George loved car racing! Mr. Harris, Jr. was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church in Murphysboro. George married Linda Waller on August 17, 1979, in Murphysboro, and she survives.

Other survivors include four children Tresia Simms of Ina, David Harris from Florida, Kevin Harris from North Carolina, and Eric Harris of Murphysboro; four grandchildren Joshua Simms, Chris Simms, Jacob Harris, and Courtney Harris; several great grandchildren including Jayce Simms, Autumn Simms, and Audrea Glasser; three sisters Saundra Owens of Chaffee, MO, Debbie Jones of Anna, and Glynna Gray of Johnston City; and two brothers Gary Harris of Holland, Mich. and Mickey Harris of Panama Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Carolyn Morgan and Karen Overbeek.

His body will be cremated and memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Elm Street Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Allen officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

Memorials may be made to the family.
