Obituary for Geraldine Coleta (Smith) Mauthe Devoted wife, beloved mother, cherished grandmother and sister, Geraldine Coleta (Smith) Mauthe, age 75, passed away in Lewisville, Texas on Monday, July 16, 2018. She was born on June 8, 1943 in Fort Worth, Texas to Gerald Eugene Marvin Smith and Coleta Frances Daves Smith. On August 24, 1964, Geraldine married the love of her life, William Louis Mauthe.
Bill and Geraldine were residents of Uncertain, Texas for 40 years. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Louis Mauthe; her brothers-in-law, Carl Strohe Mauthe, John Edward Hurley, Jr. and Kenneth Earl Henigsmith; and special friends, Mary Dell and Henry Lewis. Geraldine is survived by her daughter, Martheil Leann Mauthe-Clanton; son-in-law, John David Clanton; grandsons, Jonathan David Clanton and Christian Riley Clanton; granddaughter, Ella Marie Clanton; sisters, Frances Smith Hurley and Betty Smith Henigsmith; sister-in-law, Kathryn Gibbons Mauthe; brother, Robert Clinton “Bob” Richey (Debbie); nieces, Secili Hurley DeStefano (Darren), Holly Hurley Feather (John), Katie Henigsmith Terhune (Miles), Hali Henigsmith Oney (Kenny), Jamie Henigsmith Baker (John); nephews, Robert Gerald “Robby” Richey (Ashley), Flynn Gibbons Mauthe, and Brett Bartlett Mauthe (Carrie); great nieces and nephews, Timberlyne Mauthe, Kirsten Kylie Mauthe, Kyra and Cole DeStefano, Lily Feather, Ethan Hunley, Alex and Sean Baker, Bryson, Cutter and Nash Richey and Hayden Oney; and her special friend, Dorothy Arnick.
Geraldine was a beloved hometown jewel who worked vigorously promoting her city of Marshall. She was a kind, caring and enthusiastic supporter of all things Marshall. She served as the CVB’s Director of Visitor Services until she could no longer physically do it.
Her Civic involvement included Zeta Tau Alpha White Violet recipient, Barksdale Army Reserve Auxiliary, Shreveport Jaycees, Camp Fire leader and board member, Friends of Trinity board member and officer, treasurer and chair of various local and state political campaigns, Uncertain Social Club and Uncertain Floating Christmas Parade, Harrison County Texas Exes, Greater Marshall Chamber of Commerce, Marshall Regional Arts Council, First Presbyterian Church Elder and Circle member, Marshall Symphony League, Rotary International, First United Methodist Church and Pairs and Spares Sunday School class. Her career spanning her lifetime was with Texas Railroad Commission, US Department of Defense Education Activities, Smith Steel Casting Company, Marshall Regional Arts Council, Harrison County District Attorney’s Office, Greater Marshall Chamber of Commerce, and City of Marshall Convention and Visitors Bureau. She was actively involved in her local family business as owner/operator of Smith Steel Casting Company, Johnson’s Ranch and other business and banking ventures.
Wonderland of Lights was very much a part of her responsibilities for 27 years, serving as Chief Volunteer of Chamber of Commerce Festivals at its development to the lead for City convention staff and volunteers. Geraldine was chosen Citizen of the Year in 1992, voted Outstanding Employee of the Year in 2015, and received numerous other professional and civic honors and awards. She was deeply loved and respected by all who had the blessing of her friendship.
Geraldine’s life was well lived and she was well loved. Visitation will be held at Meadowbrook Funeral Home from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Friday, July 20, 2018. Funeral Service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 4:00pm on Saturday, July 21, 2018 with Rev.
Rodger Garbs officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Clanton, Jonathan Clanton, Christian Clanton, Robby Richey, Bob Richey, Brett Mauthe, Darren DeStefano and Rick Berry.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Smith, Jr., Flynn Mauthe, Nelson Mauthe, Jr., Brant Mauthe and Bo Ellis. The family would like to offer their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Valarie Allman, Marshall HomeCare and Hospice, Doctors and Staff of UT Southwestern under the leadership of Sharon Nations, M.D., Senior Living Specialists, Metroplex Residential: Vanessa and Omar, Monalisa, Rhoda, Constancia, Angela, and Gean; and Lifeway Hospice: Autumn, Kim, Ellen, David, Rachel and Jason.
