Gerald Witt Hayes, 70, died on April 23, 2018 at Skyline Medical Center in TN after a series of medical issues. Mr. Hayes was born March 15, 1948 and had been a resident of Franklin, KY during his childhood and teen years. The majority of Gerald’s life was spent in and around Bowling Green, KY to include 10 years in Leitchfield, KY.

He has lived in Alvaton, KY for the past 9 ½ years. Mr. Hayes was a graduate of Richardsville High School, Class of 1966 and extended his education through classes provided by his employer of 40 years, Warren Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation. At his retirement, Mr. Hayes was President and C.E.O. of WRECC.

Mr. Hayes is preceded in death by his parents, Willie G. Hayes and Clara Jean Hayes, three brothers, Earl Hayes, Stevie Hayes, and Donnie Hayes. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karen Smith Hayes, three daughters, Laura Hayes Lloyd (Ben), Leah Beth Hayes Krisher (Matt), Lisa Hayes Hendrick (Philip), and one son, Landon Gerald Hayes (Meghan), one sister Lucille Cole (Guy), and a brother Delbert Thomas Hayes. Mr. Hayes is also survived by his 10 precious grandchildren: Hannah Beth Krisher, Adrienne (Adrie) Krisher, Dawson Hendrick, Morgan Krisher, Hunter Hayes, Caleb Lloyd, Taylor Hendrick, Isaac Lloyd, Hayden Hayes, and Adelyn Hendrick.

Also surviving are his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. Larry and Janet Orange, sister-in-law, Diana Miller, and brother-in-law, Frankie Smith. There are many cousins, nieces and nephews that also survive and a host of friends. The Flag of the United States of America, at the request of the Honorable Ron Lewis, Member of Congress, was flown over the United States Capitol on February 29, 2008 for Gerald Hayes in honor of his 40 years of service at WRECC.

Gerald was very active in his community as his children were growing up, coaching his daughters’ softball teams and his son’s baseball teams. He was a natural athlete and loved to play basketball, ski, ride horses, and golf; but, most of all he liked being with his family and friends. Gerald took pride in all aspects of his life, especially having been an accomplished lineman for WRECC.

Funeral for Mr. Gerald W. Hayes will be Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 am at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Visitation will be Friday, April 27, 2018, 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Saturday 8:30 am until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt.

Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 2640 Mt. Olivet Rd. Bowling Green, KY 42101, where Gerald and Karen were married and are members.

Officiating will be Dr. Larry Orange who also performed their wedding ceremony.
