Gillouis “Gil” Monroe Cowles, Jr., 82, of Bowling Green entered into rest Thursday, December 13, 2018 in Bowling Green. Gil was born August 19, 1936 in Warren Co He was preceded in death by his parents Gillouis Monroe Cowles, Sr. and Marie York Cowles and special great nephew Mason Goodnight.

Gil was co-owner of Jim & Gil’s Men’s Shop which he and his father-in-law James Bogle opened in 1964 at 1254 31W By-pass in Bowling Green, KY and is still operating today by his family. He was a member of Lehman Ave. Church of Christ.

He was a former member of BGWC Jaycees, BG Rotary Club and Indian Hills Country Club, BGMU Board and BGWC planning and zoning commission. Gil served in the U.S. Army from 1959 until 1962. He was a proud graduate of Bristow High School, a member of the Bristow Comets Basketball team, he was known as the “Bristow Flash”, and coached by Coach Jess Kimbrough.

Gil was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting, fishing and all outdoor sporting activities. He was a huge fan of the game of basketball and loved a good argument! !

GRAMPY was the happiest when he was surrounded by all Five of his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 58 years Diane Bogle Cowles, son Gil Ray Cowles (Mary Taylor Cowles) of Rockfield, daughter Michelle Cobb (Anthony) of Bowling Green, three sisters Patricia Jean Vincent (Larry) of Smiths Grove, Brenda Goodnight (Jimmy) and Debbie Cowles Vernon and brother Harold Monroe Cowles (Peggy) all of Bowling Green. Five special grandchildren Corbin Cowles, Caroline Cowles, Catherine Cowles, Carson Cobb and Connor Cobb.

Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 2:30 pm at J. C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home and Tuesday 11:00 am until time of services.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery #2. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Foundation Christian Academy or Alzheimer’s Association.
