Gladys Marie Allen, affectionately known to her family as “Marie”, answered God’s call at 1:09 am, Monday morning, December 24, 2018. Our Heavenly Father created her in the image of one of the most precious stones.

From the time of her birth on December 28, 1938 in Wilmington, North Carolina, she was molded by the foundation of hard work and dedication. As the second of five children, she exhibited from an early age how to put the needs of others before her own. She carried this invaluable quality of selflessness throughout her entire life.

A Diamond of Destiny. From the days of her youth, she understood that through Christ, all things were possible and she could indeed move life’s mountains through her faith. After receiving her high school diploma from Williston High School, she was determined to help others and decided to relocate to New York City where she further studied nursing at St. Vincent School of Nursing so that she could pursue a career.

She pursued her profession at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where she dedicated 41 years of unwavering service and dedication to patients. She embodied the meaning of “dedication” and believed in being prompt and present without excuses. A Sapphire of Sacred Love for Her Family.

God sharpened the beauty of Marie’s existence when she met and married the late Leroy Allen, Jr. and remained his wife for 50 years until he was called home to be with the Lord. From this union, three children were born, one son and two daughters. She dedicated her whole heart to her family showing them that they were loved and appreciated unconditionally.

She ensured that she remained supportive to her children, even as her health declined. An Earthly Departure of God’s Precious Stone. Marie also joins in her Heavenly home: (Parents) James, Sr. and Gladys Gardener, (Sisters) Shirley Ann Murray-Mattox and Evelyn Louise Brown, (Brothers) James Melvin Gardener, Jr. and Andrew Gardener.

She leaves to cherish her Earthly memory: one son, Anthony Allen (NYC); two daughters, Wyntress Allen (Wilmington, NC) and Leisa Whittington (NYC); one son-in-law, Will Whittington (NYC); grandchildren, Lanell Williams (Wilmington, NC), Donnell Allen (Wilmington NC), Ramel Allen and granddaughter-in-law, Cheryl Allen (Orlando, FL), Ebony Allen (NYC), Joshua Allen (Petersburg, VA), Robert Strong (Wilmington, NC), Victoria Allen (Petersburg, VA), Dontae Strong (Wilmington, NC), Jacob and Shania James (Wilmington NC); great grandchildren, Breya Canada (NYC), Kiara Williams (NYC), Cynthia Allen (NYC), Donell Allen, Jr. (Wilmington, NC), Paris, Zephaniah, and Nariah Allen (Orlando, FL), Ava Williams (NYC) Robert, Jr. and Ryland Strong (Wilmington, NC); great-great grandchild, Travis Canada; nieces and nephews, Carolyn Donaldson (Miami, FL), Cynthia Murray (Miami, FL), Daryl Mattox (Homestead, FL), and David Brown (NYC); great nieces and nephews, Marc and Sheila Donaldson (Miami, FL), Tamekia and Paul Dickson (Miramar, FL), Keith Murray (White Springs, FL), Dante Murray (Miami, FL), Falynn Donaldson (Savannah, GA), Allen Fordham, Jr. (Miramar, FL), Destiny and Jade Laurent (Homestead, FL), Keith Murray, Jr. and Kevon Murray, (White Springs, FL); and a host of other relatives and friends.
