Obituary for Gladys R. Sawyers Gladys R. Sawyers, 88, of Grand Island, died on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Grand Island Lakeview Nursing Home in Grand Island. Graveside memorials services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the Central City Cemetery will Pastor Mark Hartley officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.

soltwagnerfuneral.com. Gladys Ruth was born on October 21, 1929 to William and Marian (Zeller) Fox in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Gladys grew up in Broken Bow until the 6th grade when her family moved to Sumner, where she finished her education.

After her schooling, Gladys moved back to Broken Bow and lived there until 1966. In March of 1962 Gladys married Levi “Lee” Booth until his untimely death in 1963. She then moved to Grand Island in 1966 when she married Ivan “Jigs” Peterson, until 1971.

While living in Grand Island, she worked at Parkside Nursing Home and Lincoln St. Manor for 13 years. In 1971, she married Orville Sawyers and they would remain married until his death on October 3, 2006. She would also work for Maytag Laundry and at Skagway South in Grand Island until her retirement.

Gladys enjoyed crossword puzzles, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, reading, and watching TV, especially old movies. She was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church. Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Scott Sawyers of Hastings, Judy, Debbie, Doretta McFall, and Eva Thompson of Hastings; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many other family members.
