Obituary for Harriet Lorraine Smith Harriet Lorraine “Splink” Smith, 90, of Winch Road, Lakewood, N.Y., passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was born on June 5, 1926 in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late John and Elsie Harwood Spelling. Harriet graduated from High School in New Mexico in 1944.

Following high school she worked for a parachute company making parachutes for the Army. She also worked at Jamesway in Lakewood, N.Y. as a stockroom supervisor. She was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club Auxillary, Vikings Lodge, Harmony Quilters, Antique Study Club of Jamestown, Transplants Garden Club, North Harmony Senior Citizens and Celoron Senior Citizens Club.

Harriet was an avid gardener and quilter. She also enjoyed flower arranging, knitting, crocheting, making homemade candles and Macramae. She was a very crafty and creative woman.

She had childhood friends and their friendships started in Kindergarten and lasted their entire lives. They referred to their eighty- five year friendship as the club. She was the matriarch of the family and her main priority was raising and caring for her family.

When her children were younger she enjoyed camping and traveling with them. She continued to travel throughout the years, she visited almost every state and also enjoy taking bus trips. Harriet is survived by her husband, John L. Smith whom she married on May 17, 1952 in Celoron, NY; by her daughter: Adrian L. Smith- Madden of Lakewood, N.Y.; by two sons: Bradley D. (Susan) Smith of Ashville, N.Y. and Matthew (Cathy) Smith of Ashville, N.Y.; five grandchildren: Jamie L. Johnson of Portage, PA, Destiny L. Dahlbeck of San Antonio, TX, Sheridan Smith of Jamestown, N.Y., Alex Svensen of Connecticut and Emily Naetzker of Jamestown, N.Y.; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Anderson and her brother, Donald Spelling. Memorial donations may be made to the Audubon Society, 1600 Riverside Road, Jamestown, NY 14701 or Fire Department of Lakewood Village, 2 Packard Way, Lakewood, NY 14750. Family and friends may call at Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, 316 East Fifth Street, Jamestown, N.Y. on Thursday from 4-7 PM.

A funeral service will be held there on Friday at 3:00 PM. Rev. Gerald Haglund, chaplin of Heritage Park will officiate.
