Harriet “Roe”‘s Obituary KATTSKILL BAY — Harriet Rowena “Roe” (Hall) Benware, 94, of Kattskill Bay, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on January 2, 2019. She was born November 13, 1924 in Lake Luzerne, New York, the daughter of Richard Francis Hall and Marion Cora (Stone). She grew up on the family farm on Gailey Hill Road.

She began school at Lake George Central School while her father was Warren County Sheriff, and continued grade school in the one room school house on Gailey Hill Road. She was the last surviving member of the class of 1942 from Hadley Luzerne High School. Harriet worked at General Electric in Schenectady during World War II.

After the war she continued her education at Plattsburgh State Teacher’s College School of Nursing, graduating in 1947 as a registered nurse. On October 3, 1948, Harriet married Wesley F. Benware. They resided in Kattskill Bay where they raised their four children.

She felt blessed to have spent her life there. She was a founding member of the North Queensbury Rescue Squad and a member of the North Queensbury Fire Department. She returned to work as an RN at the Glens Falls Hospital, retiring after a 24-year career.

Harriet enjoyed hiking, canoeing, traveling to Maine and Quebec, and piloting her Chris Craft on Lake George. She was predeceased by her husband, Wesley F. Benware, her parents, and two brothers, Richard W. Hall and Royal Hall (infant). She is survived by her children: Bernadette Beebe (Mark) of Gansevoort, Claire Benware (Lois) of Queensbury, Robert Benware (Ronnie) of Queensbury, and Charles Benware (Marilyn) of South Glens Falls, grandchildren: Christopher Powers (Lindsay), Kevin Powers (Alexandra), Kimberly Cangemi (Mario), Melanie Greeno (Adam), Melissa Powers, Richard Benware (Anastasiya), John Benware (Rachel), Bridget Benware and Heather Benware, ten great grandchildren, a nephew, several nieces, and cousins.

She was the most loving and caring mother & grandmother, always with a smile on her face and always up for an adventure. Per Harriet’s request, there will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be next to her parents at Lake Luzerne Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

A celebration of Mom’s life will be held later in the year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Adirondack Mountain Club, 814 Goggins Rd, Lake George, NY 12845 or North Queensbury Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, 2663 Rt. 9L, Cleverdale, NY 12820.
